Ptosis is a word that means droopy eyelid. Some babies are born with a droopy eyelid in one or both eyes. Most of the time this does not interfere with the vision. But in some children the droopiness may block the light rays from entering the eye. This can cause permanent loss of vision if not fixed early. Other children lift their chin up to be able to see out of the eye with the droopy eyelid. Surgery to raise the eyelid is also helpful for these children.
