THE EYE EXAMINATION
Before we can fit you with contact lenses, you need a complete eye examination, including dilation. You will also need corneal measurements. We do the examination and measurements to be sure your eyes are healthy. Contact lenses are medical devices. To wear them safely, patients need proper fitting, instructions in using and caring for lenses, and follow-up care. Our physicians require our patients who wear contact lenses to have yearly eye examinations.

CONTACT LENS FITTING
The goal of contact lens fitting is to find the most appropriate contact lens for comfort and vision. We are committed to taking the time and making the effort needed to be sure your contact lens fitting is a success. Many patients need several appointments to properly fit lenses.

INSTRUCTIONS IN USE AND CARE
During the contact lens instruction appointment, our ophthalmic assistant will give you written and verbal instructions for inserting, removing, and caring for your lenses. The assistant will also make sure you can put the lenses in your eyes and remove them without problems. After this appointment, you may begin wearing your lenses and we will schedule your first follow up appointment, usually for the following week.

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS
You will need one or more appointments for the fitting, depending on the type of lens, your prescription, your vision, and the comfort of your lenses.

ORDERING CONTACT LENSES
You may order your contact lenses any time after the fitting is complete. You can order your contact lenses from our office, or from one of the reputable contact lens order companies. To protect the health of your eyes, we will not refill contact lens prescriptions that are more than one year old. We will give you a written prescription for your contact lenses at your request as long as the prescription is current.
